In November 2020, the Broussard City Council voted to allot money from the city’s budget towards the first phase of the Envision Broussard Master Plan. This plan, which was finalized during a Charrette in 2019, comprises two different segments. The first of these is the Main Street Corridor which includes approximately 1.9 miles of Main Street from South Bernard Road to Celebrity Drive. The second segment is the Downtown Master Plan which will be integrated with the corridor plan and considers the vision, development opportunities, and illustration of opportunities for Broussard. This project has been further broken down into three phases along the Main Street Corridor.
The first phase stretches from South Bernard to Clara Street, and the city is nearing completion. Residents can look forward to this added beautification, including landscape beds, trees, benches, bike racks, water fountains, etc. Beginning in December, the city will move on to the second phase of this segment, which will include the area from Clara Street to the railroad tracks. Due to the proximity of buildings adjacent to the roadway, the utility relocation will be the first portion of this phase. This phase will also include the water line relocation, which has already been funded by the city. The city currently plans to open bids in mid-January 2023 to commence the drainage installation that will kick off phase three, covering the railroad tracks to Albertson Parkway. This final phase will also include the funded drainage closures of ditches along the entire stretch and the addition of segmented parking.
As the city is moving through the different phases and segments of the Envision Broussard Master Plan, there will be lots of decisions to make.
