Envision Broussard Progress Update

In November of 2020, the Broussard City Council voted to allot money from the city’s budget towards the first phase of the Envision Broussard Master Plan. This plan, which was finalized during a Charrette in 2019, comprises two different segments. The first of these is the Main Street Corridor which includes approximately 1.9 miles of Main Street from South Bernard Road to Celebrity Drive. The second segment is the Downtown Master Plan which will be integrated with the corridor plan and considers the vision, development opportunities, and illustration of opportunities for Broussard.

In June, phase one of Envision Broussard was completed and opened. Contractors are still diligently working on completing the ten-foot-wide multi-use path, and lamp posts have been placed alongside the pathway to illuminate the area. The gateway monument sign is nearly complete, welcoming residents and visitors into our city. Our historic oak trees are lighted in the evening to help complete a grand entrance into our city. This sign and transition into lighted trees will serve as a marker, so visitors will know they have officially entered Broussard. The goal is for it to serve as an accurate first impression of the wonderful City of Broussard. A major drainage improvement was also completed as part of the phase one planning as a box culvert under Main Street was replaced near the Village of Broussard Subdivision. Two new traffic signals are now operational along South Bernard Road at the intersection of Albertson’s Parkway and at the intersection of Main Street. The Main Street overlay has been completed from St. De Porres Street to Albertsons Parkway. This was a much-needed road overlay that we are excited to announce. The Fairfield drainage project to provide drainage relief that will impact the area of Comeaux Estates Subdivision is nearly completed. The City of Broussard has been working in conjunction with the Lafayette Consolidated Government to improve drainage throughout the city. Our city has now moved into the final stages of planning for the next phase of our downtown redevelopment.

As the city is moving into the next phase of the Envision Broussard Master Plan, there will be lots of decisions to make.
