Exciting educational opportunities are on the horizon for the City of Broussard as the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education has granted approval for the establishment of Broussard Charter Academy. This new Type 2 charter school, managed by the Lafayette Charter Foundation, Inc., is scheduled to open its doors for the 2025-26 school year.
Strategically located on St. Nazaire Road, near the Broussard Sports Complex at St. Julien Park, Broussard Charter Academy will welcome approximately 900 students from kindergarten through eighth grade. As a Type 2 charter school, it will draw students from across the state, offering families a high-quality, innovative educational option designed to meet local needs.
Mary Louella Riggs-Cook, President of the Lafayette Charter Foundation, expressed her excitement about the project, stating, “This charter school will offer families a high-quality, innovative educational option tailored to meet local needs, helping our students thrive academically and compete on a global level.”
The Broussard Charter Academy will be managed by Charter Schools USA, a for-profit organization known for its commitment to educational excellence. The school aims to provide state-of-the-art facilities, comprehensive education programs, and a supportive learning environment.
Broussard Mayor Ray Bourque emphasized the significance of this development for the city, saying, “As our great city continues to grow, Broussard Charter Academy will provide additional school facilities, classrooms, teachers, education programs, and activities for our expanding school-aged population. This new charter school will be an important part of the future of Broussard.”
The Broussard City Council has shown strong support for the project, passing a resolution in favor of the new charter school at their recent meeting.
