Louisiana’s New Work-Based Learning Tax Credit: A Win for Broussard’s Workforce & Businesses

Starting in 2026, Louisiana is rolling out an exciting new initiative that directly benefits both local businesses and the next generation of talent, the Work-Based Learning Tax Credit. This forward-thinking program is designed to expand access to internships, apprenticeships, and real-world career experiences for students and young workers across the state.
At the Broussard Economic Development Center, we are proud to support opportunities like this that strengthen our local workforce, empower our youth, and fuel long term economic growth right here in Broussard.
What Is the Work-Based Learning Tax Credit?
The Work-Based Learning Tax Credit is a state backed incentive that rewards employers for investing in hands on learning opportunities.
Here is how it works:
• $2.50 per hour worked for eligible student or youth employees
• Up to $2,500 per employee each year
• Applies to structured work based learning experiences such as internships, apprenticeships, and job shadowing
This means businesses can receive meaningful financial support while mentoring and training future employees.
Why This Matters for Broussard Businesses
Broussard continues to grow as a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, and industry. With that growth comes the need for a strong and skilled workforce.
This program allows local employers to build a reliable talent pipeline, train employees to meet specific business needs, reduce hiring risks by developing talent in house, and offset labor costs through tax incentives.
It is an investment in your business that pays off now and in the future.
A Powerful Opportunity for Students and Young Workers
For students and young professionals, this initiative opens doors to real world experience that goes far beyond the classroom.
Participants can gain hands on skills in real work environments, explore potential career paths early, build confidence and professional networks, and increase their chances of long term employment.
It is not just about earning a paycheck, it is about building a future.
Strengthening Our Local Economy
When businesses invest in people, communities thrive.
By participating in the Work-Based Learning Tax Credit program, Broussard employers are helping keep talent local, reduce workforce gaps, support economic sustainability, and create a stronger and more connected community.
This is how we grow together.
