Broussard is taking significant strides to accommodate its growth by redeveloping its downtown area. This ambitious project, known as Envision Broussard, reflects the city’s commitment to enhancing its infrastructure and community appeal. Spearheaded by Mayor Ray Bourque, Envision Broussard aims to attract investment and elevate the city’s downtown area. The initiative began in 2019 and is structured into three phases. The project’s first phase introduced a welcoming gateway sign at Broussard’s west entrance and upgraded essential infrastructure, including drainage and multi-use pathways adorned with lamp post lighting.
The upcoming phase, set to commence in January, will focus on the heart of downtown Broussard. It promises new drainage systems, ADA-compliant sidewalks, and improved parking solutions. These enhancements aim to create a more accessible and pedestrian-friendly environment, fostering a vibrant community space. Currently underway, the project is extending the upgraded sidewalks and lighting along Main Street, from St. Des Porres Street to Albertson Parkway. This phase is anticipated to conclude in early 2025, further solidifying Broussard’s downtown as a hub of activity and engagement.
Mayor Bourque highlights the positive ripple effect of this redevelopment, noting increased investments in the downtown area. The project not only benefits existing businesses and residents but also invites new ventures and inhabitants to explore what Broussard has to offer. As Broussard continues to evolve, the Envision Broussard project stands as a testament to the city’s dedication to progress and community pride. Through thoughtful planning and execution, Broussard is poised to thrive, offering a dynamic and inviting downtown for all to enjoy.
